  • March 24 (Sat) - CHILI COOK-OFF to benefit the David Fisher Upper Hudson Heroes - kayaking program for disabled veterans, Watervliet.  At the Watervliet Dome, 2nd Ave &13th St.  4-10pm.  $10pp (under 16 free).  In the plans: demo pool, rock wall, bounce houses, music radio station, food, beer & soda.  2011 overview:  Story on Fox 23 News.  Using Perception Carolina 12, Dagger Alchemy & Axis kayaks.  TV13 news report July 20 .
  • June 4 (Mon) DEMO DAY - Try out a variety of canoes & kayaks incl. lightweight ones by Swift. 4-8pm.

    $25 pp. Most Canoes or Kayaks - your choice. All gear & boat transport provided. Easy to moderate pace. Great way of trying out a canoe or kayak you are thinking of buying.

  • June 19 (Tue) MOHAWK RIVER from Kiwanis Park in Rotterdam.  6:15pm.
  • June 26 (Tue) HUDSON RIVER Port of Albany from Corning Preserve.  6:15pm.
  • Call to reserve by credit card, 346-3180 or just stop in store. When store closed, reserve by email - Email us. Sign up before 1pm day of tour, preferably the day before. No cancellations after 11am day of tour - all trips go rain or shine. Bring drinking water, a whistle & a white light (headlamp/flashlight/PFD light); expect to at least get your feet wet, watershoes are best. Don't wear any cotton clothing in spring or fall. Think - what will you do with your car keys? It is best if you have some idea of which kayak(s) you would like to paddle - stop in the store & try some on for size, read our buyer's guide

  • INTRO TO KAYAKING - THE BASICS - Mon May 21 or Fri May 25; 6:30-8pm. 
    A one evening class great for beginners.  Getting in & out gracefully, holding the paddle, efficient forward stroke, torso rotation, maneuvering strokes, feathered/unfeathered paddles. $48 includes kayak, $35 bring your own kayak.
  • FUNDAMENTALS OF KAYAKING I & II - Wed June 6 & Fri June 8 6:30-8pm.   A 2 evening class.  This class is for those who want to paddle more than just calm ponds.  Getting in & out gracefully, holding the paddle, efficient forward stroke, torso rotation, maneuvering strokes, feathered/unfeathered paddles.  We will also work on edging, bracing, sculling draw, more.  The fast route to becoming an intermediate kayaker.  Best for kayaks with cockpit length under 40".  $95 includes kayak, $69 bring your own kayak.
  • KAYAK RESCUE & RECOVERY - Fri June 15.
    Do you know how to get back in your kayak after a capsize? Do you know how to assist another kayaker who has capsized? Learn the paddle float self-rescue & the assisted T rescue. $48 includes kayak, $35 bring your own kayak. Do not wear any cotton clothing - it will suck the heat right out of you. Most novice kayakers have never capsized - all experts have.
  • FUNDAMENTALS OF KAYAKING II - May 23 (Wed) 6:30-8pm.   For folks with some experience - a great refresher class or primer for moving water &/or waves.  After a short review of forward stroke, basic sweeps & draws, feathered/unfeathered paddles we work on edging, bracing, sculling draw, more.  Best for kayaks with cockpit length under 40".  $48 includes kayak, $35 bring your own kayak.

  • FUNDAMENTALS OF KAYAKING III - ? 6:30-8pm. 
    More on edging, braces, sculling draw, sculling for support, brace turns, bow rudder, & their uses - techniques that can help you in wind, waves & moving water. For those with some experience. $48/$35.

  • CANOEING - Mon June 11.
    Novice thru intermediate, solo or tandem, j-stroke & maneuvering (sweeps, draws, pries), more. For those adept at j-stroking we can move on to the Canadian, pitch & indian.  $48 includes canoe, $35 bring your own canoe.

  • KAYAK ROLLING & RESCUES in the JCC pool on Balltown Rd in Niskayuna, Wednesdays 8-9:30pm in late winter/early spring. $36 (add $15 for kayak rental if needed). Don't need instruction but would like to use the pool to practice on your own - $16.  
  • No refunds/rescheduling within 2 days of class; 20% reservation fee non-refundable if cancel or reschedule 3 to 7 days before class. Classes go on rain or shine.
